Noise is one of the main barriers to concentration at work.
To objectively compare sound isolation solutions, a common method was needed: that is the purpose of ISO 23351-1, reference in the market since 2020. ISO 23351-1 is a technical document that defines the criteria for evaluating the soundproofing performance of acoustic pods.
It takes into account several factors to ensure optimal noise reduction.
The standard uses a unified protocol to measure how much sound escapes and enters the pod, resulting in an overall sound attenuation index.
Thanks to this standardisation, products can now be compared on a fair and reliable basis.
The norm classifies acoustic pods from A+ to E, based on their ability to reduce speech and ambient noise. The closer to A, the better the isolation. At Work With Island, the Island Solo and Island Desk are classified A, while the Island Duo and Island Quattro are classified B.
Our pods offer an average noise reduction of 30 dB. In practice, this means going from a noisy environment (classroom, busy open space) at 70 dB to a calm space at 40 dB (quiet office, silent library).
Historically certified class B, our pods have evolved: the Island Solo and Island Desk now reach class A thanks to our R&D work.

No, this standard is not mandatory, but it has become the international reference for evaluating acoustic pods. It ensures that the performance announced by each manufacturer is based on the same testing protocol, which guarantees transparency and reliability. Make sure your supplier holds this certification and that the test was carried out under the right conditions.
The decibel scale is logarithmic, which means that a small difference in dB corresponds to a significant gap in real perception. A pod with 30 dB of attenuation isolates approximately twice as much as a pod at 25 dB.
All our pods have progressed in acoustic performance. The Island Solo and Island Desk now reach class A, with noise reductions of 30 dB and 31.15 dB, compared to 28.3 dB previously for the Solo. The Island Duo and Island Quattro remain class B but also progress, moving respectively from 25.4 dB to 28.60 dB and from 26.8 dB to 29.80 dB. These gains are the direct result of our R&D work on materials and pod design.
